Donate to United Way Flood Rehabilitation Fund

United Way's mission is to mobilize the caring power of communities.

In light of the recent devastation in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, that mission is now even more poignant.

The rain and flash floods, termed the worst in 100 years in the two states, have left over a million people in Karnataka and around 1.7 million in Andhra Pradesh homeless as their houses have been partially or fully damaged.

Karnataka has estimated its losses at Rs. 20,000 crore and Andhra Pradesh has put its losses at Rs.12,666 crore. After early assessment of the situation in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, United Way coordinated immediate relief activities with its corporate partners and relief materials like blankets, mosquito nets, tarpaulin sheets, packaged food items and personal hygiene items were sent to flood-affected areas in the two states:

United Way of India is raising resources to help displaced individuals and families by:

  • Assessing and coordinating the services they need such as housing, healthcare, livelihood and community assistance
  • Identifying areas for long-term rehabilitation of displaced individuals and communities and livelihood opportunities after the rampant loss of livestock and agricultural produce

The United Way system is a leader in rebuilding lives. The work of United Way will go on long after the initial response efforts are completed. United Way is coordinating the long-term recovery planning process in many areas, with the goal of ensuring that displaced individuals are physically secure, emotionally stable, and once again have a community to call home.

We encourage people to make monetary contributions to United Way to help with the response and recovery efforts. All contributions will be eligible for exemption (50% of the contribution) under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961
